Cursed By A Classical Education

Let's just say that I intend to use this blog to blow off some steam that I might be feeling with the International/National media, my work situation, or maybe even to tee off on the family in a humorous way of course!

Supersize Me????

Well...in my goal to earn a free Ipod to donate to a recovering soldier, I signed up with Blockbuster to deliver DVDs to my door. Great program...I can have 3 movies "out" at any one time...for just $19.95 a month. The movies come with pre-paid postage laden envelopes...so it's a matter of taking them out of the mailbox, watching them, then putting them into the envelopes and putting them back in the mailbox. Go to the site and just check out what's available...probably more than what you can find in your local BLOCKBUSTER. Enough of a commercial for you yet?

In any case, I gave MajorMom the username and password to order some movies for the family to watch. One title she picked out of the list of 100 most popular and new releases was "SuperSize Me." When I thought about it and even when I looked at the website description...I thought it was a comedy. Something about what happens to a guy that decides to eat all his meals at McDonalds.

Well, tonight MajorMom and I popped the flashy little disk into the DVD player and found out what it was really about. The movie "Supersize Me" is to McDonalds as "Roger and Me" is to the Detroit automobile industry.

The "hero" of the movie decides to antagonize McDonalds by filming a documentary of his 30 day journey by only eating McDonald's food. His name is "Morgan." He has set up a few rules.

1. During the 30 days, he must eat each item on the menu at least once.
2. He must eat three meals a day.
3. If he's offered to supersize his purchase...he has to take it.

Clearly this is again an attempt by the liberals to shift the responsibility from the individual to an industry.

McDonalds, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, and all the rest are not out to kill us. They are there to provide us a little additional convenience and the occasional treat from the daily grind of spending time in the kitchen. Morgan's attempt to lay the blame at this industry's feet is absolutely ridiculous.

The bottom line is that Morgan does screw up his health by eating a McDonalds only diet for 30 days. The same would happen to us if we were dumb enough to give this a try too.

As I want to write for a long, long time....I'll need readers for that same time peroid! Let's take the pledge together....

I am responsible for myself. Regarding my health, I'll endeavor to watch what I eat, eat what I need, not necessarily what I want! I'll do what I can to get an appropriate amount of exercise with of course my doctor's approval. Exercise can be anything: walking, running, swimming, cycling, gardening, weightlifting, or just about anything.

Thanks for listening....and reading....and please, share me with your friends!

WTF?????? Over!!!!!

Shells from Syria fired at troops in Iraq

Okay, time for someone to tie me down!

If we're taking fire from Syria...why aren't we doing something about it? I'm hoping that we've learned a few lessons since Vietnam.

If the mortarmen lobbing rounds at American and Iraqi forces on the Syrian border are Syrian or if they're insurgents using a "line in the sand" as an umbrella against attack...I think they're sadly mistaken. When a battery of MLRS (Multiple Launched Rocket Systems) launches on you...the grid square (1000 m x 1000 m area) is pretty much taken out. I'm relatively certain that our counter mortar radars can get us close enough to only need a few MLRS strikes fired to knock this crap right the hell off!

I do believe that the gloves come off after 2 November...no matter what the outcome. It's time to finish these suckers off and I believe that Mr. Alawi has the will to do it too.

Pray for the men and women currently serving at the tip of the spear, pray for those that have felt the loss and sting of battle and are now in a better place or perhaps recovering from their wounds, and pray for our President leading the world in this fight against evil.

"Evil prospers when good men do nothing." (Many sources) Mr. Bush is a good man who is not sitting this one out on the sidelines. Unfortunately, I believe Mr. Kerry is a good man...but also believe that he'd prefer that we had done nothing to counter the Iraqi threat.

Major Mom Sends...Regarding Recent West Point Reunion...

West Point is on a Hill
2 see it is a Thrill
West Point is a long walk
which makes me groan and balk!

Husband did not disclose
everything he did know!
West Point is a long walk,
which makes me groan and balk

West Point is on a Hill,
The walk made me ill.
Husband said to wear comfy shoes,
said we had lots of walking to do;

He did not tell me about the hill,
he did not disclose this, no he did not;
He made me walk and walk and walk,
which made me groan and balk

And Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any Worse...

Borrowed from the DrudgeReport:

'We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other debilitating diseases... When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.' Edwards made the unprecedented campaign promises during 30-minute speech at Newton High School gym in Newton, Iowa...

Just how dumb do these guys think that the average American is?

Personally, I am undecided about using "artificially created embryos" to harvest embryotic stem cells for research purposes, but to make such obviously unsubtantiated claims for political gains, so soon after Christopher Reeve's passing is beyond the pale.

Note that I said "research" in the above passage. While it does make sense that there might be some medical utility in treating some of the maladies that John Edwards included in his claims, but there's nothing yet proven...let alone into any kind of trials that would lead even the most optimistic person alive to believe that a Kerry administration's support could lead to such "faith healing" claims made by the senior senator (with a whopping five years experience) from North Carolina.

The Kerry Campaign owes the American people an explanation of these comments and a public apology to the Reeve family for making his comments in such poor taste at a time of grief.

The MajorFamily extends their condolences to the entire Reeve family at this time of loss. Christopher truly was a Super-Man.

Sadly from the high ground.

Bush and the Flu Vaccine

This morning we all heard about John Kerry placing the responsibility for the alleged shortage of flu vaccine this year at the feet of President George Bush.

The actual cause for the shortage is due to problems in the production of the vaccine at a UK pharmaceutical company, Chiron. During their quality control testing, they found impurities in a number of batches of vaccine and had to trash them all. This wound up causing worldwide shortages of vaccine, not just here in the US.

My question to you my gentle readers is where does the responsibility for these types of action truly lie? Do we really expect that the President of the US is or is this simply another way to sling mud in this campaign?

Has the world of politcal campaigning gone nuts?

Sniffling on the high ground.
